| Breaking News | | Tuesday, May 26th, 2009: Great Stroke! Torres Gets 5 Hits! What a day for Javier Torres of the Gary Goats! A 5-hit hitting spree! That doesn't happen everyday. He ripped Guantanamo Bay pitching apart at The Thunderdome. He wrote his name in the record books, finishing up his special day 5-6. But the Interrogators spoiled his party by winning the game 11-9.
The Gary first baseman confessed, "I would have much preferred getting a couple of hits and winning the game to this. It's hard to enjoy anything when you lose."
His skipper said, "It's a shame that we couldn't have won the game. A guy gets a once-in-a-lifetime game and can't really enjoy it."
But he was upbeat enough to talk about his basic theory of hitting. "I'm usually a first ball hitter," Torres told SION reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid that."
J. Torres singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off W. Drake in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
Torres on the season is hitting .332 with 11 home runs. His stats include 39 RBIs and 37 runs scored. | | Thursday, May 21st, 2009: Morrow Belts 3 HRs Fans from San Antonio are still buzzing after San Antonio whipped the Goats 14-3 today at The Snake Pit. Adrian Morrow smashed three home runs in the game.
This is a feat that few players ever achieve and few fans ever see.
In a tremendous performance the third baseman bashed out 4 hits in 5 at-bats, had 6 RBIs and scored 4 times.
Speaking with the SION reporters at the postgame press conference, he was asked what it felt like to hit three home runs in one game. Morrow answered, "To get one homer is special...two is great...three is just unbelievable!"
A. Morrow doubled in the 1st, hit a GRAND SLAM off T. Flores in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off T. Roche in the 4th, flied out in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off K. Brown in the 8th.
This season in 45 games Morrow is batting .287 with 5 home runs, 25 RBIs and has scored 26 times. | | Wednesday, April 29th, 2009: Gary Shuts Out Stamford In a sharp 4-hit performance, Sergio Pérez tossed the Gary Goats to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Stamford Smugglers, fanning 3 and walking 3.
"That's as good a stuff as I've seen in a long time," the Stamford manager said in his postgame interview.
This year in 7 starts, Pérez has recorded 3 wins and absorbed 3 losses. He has pitched 51.1 innings, allowed 60 hits, struck out 17 and has a 3.86 ERA. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | C Chad Bailey | fractured knee | Career Over! | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 25-35, .417 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 10.0 GB | | Record at home | 13-17, .433 PCT | | Record on the road | 12-18, .400 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-3, .625 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 9-4, .692 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 4-9, .308 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 21-26, .447 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 14-14, .500 PCT | | Record in May | 9-20, .310 PCT | | Record in June | 2-1, .667 PCT |
