But they can't, so the good hitters get the big bucks. At Eight By Eleven Park Barrett Courtney showed how it's done as he went 5 for 6 against the Stamford Smugglers. However this great day with the bat didn't pay off in a victory. The Scranton Dunderheads fell 7-6.
The manager for the Smugglers told the SION sportswriters, "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it. That's the game of baseball. Don't make mistakes and you win a lot more ballgames. Luckily we came away with a win today. Courtney just didn't get enough help."
If Courtney keeps hitting like this, he could be headed for a big pay raise.
B. Courtney singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off J. Arreola in the 4th, walked in the 6th, singled in the 8th, hit a two-run single in the 9th, walked in the 11th, flied out in the 13th and singled in the 16th.
Courtney is batting at a .265 pace in 2009, picking up 53 hits in 200 at-bats with 14 home runs, 35 RBIs and 33 runs scored. | | Monday, June 1st, 2009: Jiménez Chosen Aaron's Best Newcomer Almost everyone agreed -- fans, teammates, peers -- and SION sportwriters, too -- that Carlos Jiménez was worthy of the Aaron Rookie of the Month award.
In the month of May the Scranton third baseman was a bigtime threat. The 25-year-old Scranton third baseman played in 27 games and hit .190 with 3 doubles, no triples and 2 home runs. Jiménez also scored 10 times and drove in 6 runs.
In 2009 Jiménez is hitting .229, batted in 14 runs with 4 home runs and 18 runs scored. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | 1B Bob Carpenter | torn groin muscle | 4 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 33-39, .458 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 9.0 GB | | Record at home | 16-20, .444 PCT | | Record on the road | 17-19, .472 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-6, .250 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 8-7, .533 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 12-6, .667 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 21-33, .389 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 10-18, .357 PCT | | Record in May | 16-13, .552 PCT | | Record in June | 7-8, .467 PCT |
