| Breaking News | | Thursday, October 23rd, 2008: Bristol Tops Stamford for A2 Title The Bristol Owls concluded the season in grand fashion -- they won the Ahiba2 Round 3. They nailed it down at The Park at Chippens Hill by whipping the Stamford Smugglers 4-2 to win it all. They took the series 4-2.
Their motto for the season was "Win or Die Trying".
"They never let up and they never stopped trying the whole season," the Owls manager proudly told reporters. "They hustled and fought the whole season and it continued in the playoffs. They are a very special bunch of guys."
To get their 1st league crown, the Owls finished up the regular season in the Ruth Williams with a 91-72 record, ending up in first place in the division standings. | | Monday, October 13th, 2008: 5-5 Game for Morgan It was a good day for the Bristol Owls as they dumped the Jacksonville Marlins 8-4 at Huge Jax Field. Despite the loss it was a remarkable day for Marlins Jim Morgan, who went on quite a hitting spree with a 5 for 5 barrage.
The Jacksonville catcher told reporters after his big 5-hit performance, "I have mixed emotions about this game. Getting 5 hits is really something special, but losing the ballgame spoils it to a certain extent. It's sort of like the feeling you get when your mother-in-law drive over a cliff in your new sports car."
For his outstanding performance Morgan will get his name in the record book.
Quizzed by the press corps about his personal hitting theories, he responded, "I don't have any buzz words. I'm 'not dialed in' or 'in a zone,' as they say. As far as the hitting goes, I try to keep it simple...try not to over-think it. I try not to look into it too much. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then in a split second decide to try to hit it. Today I picked up the spin very well."
J. Morgan singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
This season Morgan has delivered 165 hits in 526 at-bats for a .314 average with 20 home runs. He is getting on base at a .412 clip and his totals also include 92 RBIs and 88 runs scored. This year Morgan has played in 136 games. | | Friday, September 19th, 2008: Fargo Wins, Shuts Out Owls He didn't put a spell on them. It wasn't black magic, it was just old-fashioned good pitching. That's how Roberto Sparticello of the Fargo Bomb Dogs blanked the Bristol Owls 4-0.
After tossing a complete game 2-hit shutout, he was all smiles, saying, "I threw a lot of my pitches for strikes in this game. I mixed it up and tried keeping these guys off balance."
His own skipper said, "He's at his best when he gets ahead of the hitters." Sparticello walked 2 and struck out 5 in the victory.
The Owls manager commented on their lack of success against him, saying, "He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and we never capitalized on any of his mistakes."
So far this season Sparticello has a record of 14-13 with 184 strikeouts and 81 walks in 223.2 innings and a 4.06 ERA. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | 2B Vic Ryan | fractured cheekbone | 6-7 months | 25 day(s) left (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 91-72, .558 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 56-26, .683 PCT | | Record on the road | 35-46, .432 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 9-6, .600 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 28-23, .549 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 30-16, .652 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 61-56, .521 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in May | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in June | 15-10, .600 PCT | | Record in July | 15-14, .517 PCT | | Record in August | 18-10, .643 PCT | | Record in September | 13-11, .542 PCT |
