"I felt great out there. After the second or third inning, I got real comfortable," John Greer said in his postgame interview. "Hopefully this is a building block for me. I'm hoping for a few more starts like this."
The Asheville hurler scored a 6-0 shutout victory over the Yard Dawgs, stopping them on 5 hits. He rung up 5 strikeouts and gave up 2 walks in today's performance.
In 2008 Greer has a 10-10 record with a 3.85 ERA.

 | Saturday, September 6th, 2008: Julian Thomas Will Miss 7 Months
The Asheville Smokies were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that Julian Thomas was likely to be out for 7 months after he injured himself colliding with a player at a base in today's game against the Honolulu Tsunami. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a torn back muscle. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Asheville manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries--they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Julian is back in action."
Thomas is batting .349 this year with 15 home runs, 83 RBIs and 98 runs scored. He has 189 hits in 542 at-bats.

 | Monday, September 1st, 2008: Ruth #1 Pitcher in August is Asheville's Yamanaka
Tokutomi Yamanaka was on cloud nine the entire month of August, capping it off with the Ruth Pitcher of the Month honors.
The Asheville starter was spectacular in 5 starting assignments with 5 wins and no losses, 40 innings pitched, 26 strikeouts and a fine 2.92 ERA.
This year Yamanaka has a 20-5 record with a 2.74 ERA in 29 starts.
