It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Mike Johnson. It was very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Johnson went on a tear at The Thunderdome and cracked hit after hit off Honolulu pitching.
When the dust settled on the diamond, he had a career 5-5 day and something he will long remember. "Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but I don't think I'll tell we lost," he laughed in the SION postgame interview.
Johnson got the accolades today and the Honolulu Tsunami walked off the field with a 8-7 win.
M. Johnson singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off A. Phelps in the 9th.
Currently Johnson is batting .353 with 14 home runs and 79 RBIs.

 | Monday, September 1st, 2008: Best Ruth Newcomer Named
The outstanding Ruth rookie in August was Syracuse's right fielder Chrissy Jonesie.
Last month he played in 26 games and hit .430 with 7 doubles, no triples and 7 home runs. Jonesie also scored 19 times and drove in 26 runs.
This season Jonesie is batting .307 with 74 RBIs, 77 runs scored and 14 home runs.

 | Monday, September 1st, 2008: Star of the Week Awarded in Ruth
Joe Smith went on a week-long hitting spree against Ruth pitchers and captured the Player of the Week honors.
The Syracuse left fielder battered the opposition for 12 hits, 2 home runs, 10 RBIs and scored 7 runs. He hit .545 and posted a .655 on-base percentage.
This season Smith is batting at a .339 clip with 34 home runs and 126 RBIs.
