| Breaking News | | Friday, September 19th, 2008: Fargo Wins, Shuts Out Owls He didn't put a spell on them. It wasn't black magic, it was just old-fashioned good pitching. That's how Roberto Sparticello of the Fargo Bomb Dogs blanked the Bristol Owls 4-0.
After tossing a complete game 2-hit shutout, he was all smiles, saying, "I threw a lot of my pitches for strikes in this game. I mixed it up and tried keeping these guys off balance."
His own skipper said, "He's at his best when he gets ahead of the hitters." Sparticello walked 2 and struck out 5 in the victory.
The Owls manager commented on their lack of success against him, saying, "He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and we never capitalized on any of his mistakes."
So far this season Sparticello has a record of 14-13 with 184 strikeouts and 81 walks in 223.2 innings and a 4.06 ERA. | | Monday, September 15th, 2008: Martin Holds Owls Scoreless An efficient outing for Jim Martin usually means a win for Jacksonville. Today was no exception, as the 22-year-old starter held Bristol to a long line of goose eggs. He struck out 5 and gave up 4 hits in the 7-0 shutout.
Checking out his stats for the year, Martin has racked up 15 wins and 9 losses in 29 starts, 4.14 ERA and struck out 74 batters in 198 innings. | | Thursday, September 4th, 2008: 5-Hits Blitz by Honolulu's Duncan! Paul Duncan really sizzled at the plate today. In a game played at Tidal Wave Stadium, the Honolulu center fielder blistered the Bristol Owls for 5 hits in 7 at-bats to pace his club to a 18-0 victory.
"Duncan was too tough to get out today," the Owls skipper said in his postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."
P. Duncan struck out in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off P. Wilson in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off B. Gibson in the 9th.
This season Duncan is batting .312 with 17 home runs. He has scored 97 runs and driven in 61. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 88-71, .553 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 55-26, .679 PCT | | Record on the road | 33-45, .423 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 8-6, .571 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 28-23, .549 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 29-16, .644 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 59-55, .518 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in May | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in June | 15-10, .600 PCT | | Record in July | 15-14, .517 PCT | | Record in August | 18-10, .643 PCT | | Record in September | 10-10, .500 PCT |
