Ken Turner told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard."
Well, that's just what Turner of the Jacksonville Marlins did against the Long Island Swordfish. He went to the plate 5 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Swordfish, who suffered a 8-4 defeat.
"Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us."
K. Turner hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off J. Jester in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off P. Montés in the 8th.
This season Turner has hit at a .263 clip with 21 RBIs, 7 home runs and 21 runs scored. He has played in 33 games. |
 | Thursday, June 25th, 2009: 5-5 Day for Miranda
At Biltmore Field César Miranda was the King of Swing today in the 14-3 win over the Marlins.
The Asheville shortstop stepped into the batter's box 5 times against the Jacksonville and delivered 5 hits.
It was a sensational game for him. He excitedly told the press, "Unbelieveable feeling. Unbelieveable. It felt good. It felt great. What a day! 5 for 5! It does wonders for your batting average, too."
C. Miranda singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off S. Walker in the 8th.
Presently Miranda is batting .269 with 56 hits and 3 home runs. He has knocked in 26 runs and scored 33 times. |

It was announced today that Jacksonville left fielder John Cunningham was selected the Ruth Player of the Week Award for his superb play last week.
During the week he compiled a .533 batting average (16-30) with 5 home runs, 16 runs batted in and scored 10 runs.
In 2009 Cunningham has hit at a .241 clip with 38 hits, 8 home runs, 32 RBIs and has scored 27 times.
