| Breaking News |  | Monday, September 15th, 2008: Ruth Hitter of the Week According to the voters, Kenny Lowe of the Long Island Swordfish had the best week of all Ruth hitters as he was named this week's Player of the Week.
The right fielder's accomplishments include 14 hits in 23 at-bats, a .609 batting average, 3 home runs, 11 RBIs and 7 runs scored.
Thus far in 2008 Lowe is batting .292 with 28 home runs, 101 RBIs and 87 runs scored. |  | Sunday, August 24th, 2008: Cruz Smacks 3 Out-of-the-Park! Fireworks exploded with regularity in the Smokies-Swordfish game, but it wasn't a match that set them off -- it was the bat of Ramón Cruz.
He belted 3 home runs in an awesome display of sheer power.
In the 12-7 Asheville victory Cruz stunned the Swordfish pitching staff for 3 hits in 5 at-bats and knocked in 5 runs.
After the game, Cruz said simply, "I saw everything they threw at me. Hitting was a piece of cake today...with lots of extra icing on it."
R. Cruz flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off J. Jester in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off M. Brown in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off T. Flint in the 8th.
Cruz has a .267 average and a .357 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 120 hits, 29 home runs and driven in 86 runs. |  | Saturday, August 23rd, 2008: Big Bang! 3 HR for Long Island's Towns! Three home runs in a game doesn't happen often.
When it does it is something special to celebrate.
And Jack Towns of Long Island can celebrate it.
He is now a member of the select group of players, who have hit three home runs in a single game. He powered three into the stands today at Oceanview Park against the Bristol Owls.
In all he was 3-3 as the Swordfish toppled Bristol 7-6, knocking in 4 runs and scoring 4 times.
Towns told reporters after the game, "It's rare that you actually try to hit a home run. Most of the time you fail, if you really try to hit one. But today I tried on the last one."
His manager added, "He is blessed with a natural home run swing. He gets the ball up in the air."
J. Towns hit a solo-shot off K. Crawford in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off K. Crawford in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off K. Crawford in the 6th, walked in the 8th and was hit by a pitch in the 10th.
This season Towns has banged out 124 hits in 462 at-bats for a .268 average with 24 home runs.
