| Breaking News | | Saturday, June 27th, 2009: Turner Raps Long Island for 5 Hits Ken Turner told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard."
Well, that's just what Turner of the Jacksonville Marlins did against the Long Island Swordfish. He went to the plate 5 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Swordfish, who suffered a 8-4 defeat.
"Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us."
K. Turner hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off J. Jester in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off P. Montés in the 8th.
This season Turner has hit at a .263 clip with 21 RBIs, 7 home runs and 21 runs scored. He has played in 33 games. | | Monday, June 22nd, 2009: Ruth's #1 Player Named This week Ruth pitching was a feast fit for a king and Kenny Lowe really made the most of it -- ripping them royally. The talented Long Island hitting machine produced a sizzling .571 batting average, 4 home runs, 12 hits in 21 at-bats, 10 RBIs and 6 runs.
That kind of hitting earned him the Ruth Player of the Week honors.
On the season, Lowe is batting .266 with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs. He has played in 68 games. | | Monday, June 1st, 2009: Ruth's Best Batter Picked Alex Berry received the Ruth Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month.
"He may be getting older," Long Island's manager told reporters, "But he's been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together... and he doesn't keep that to himself. He's always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping 'em any way they'll let him. Alex's value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field."
To win the honor Berry put up a .411 batting average, 4 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 27 times in May.
So far this year Berry is batting .355 with 6 home runs. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 53-27, .662 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 32-9, .780 PCT | | Record on the road | 21-18, .538 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-5, .545 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 9-10, .474 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 36-16, .692 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 8-2, .800 PCT | | Record in April | 15-13, .536 PCT | | Record in May | 20-9, .690 PCT | | Record in June | 18-5, .783 PCT |
