Thursday, September 4th, 2008: Gai Rips Guantanamo Bay for 5 Hits
5 times is a charm -- at least in the world of baseball. When a player gets 5 or more hits in a game, he is honored in the record book and the latest honoree is Yu-eh Gai of the Anchorage Snow Bears.

He tore up the Guantanamo Bay Interrogators to the tune of 5 hits in 6 at-bats in the Anchorage 8-7 win today at Blizzard Park.

"Gai was a tough out today," the Guantanamo Bay manager said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure."

Y. Gai singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 7th, singled in the 9th and hit a solo-shot off J. Rosado in the 12th.

This season Gai has hit at a .281 clip with 66 RBIs, 21 home runs and 95 runs scored. He has played in 132 games.
Friday, August 29th, 2008: 5-Hit Game for Somin!
It was a big day with the bat for Kenneth Somin of the Waco Stampede at Central Texas Stadium as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat Guantanamo Bay 25-1.

To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today -- Bingo! -- 5 hits in 6 tries! But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."

At the end of the game Somin had collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Stampede had won.

The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.

K. Somin grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 5th, walked in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off J. García in the 8th.

So far this year in 127 games Somin is hitting .323 with 18 home runs, 79 RBIs and 95 runs scored.
Tuesday, July 29th, 2008: Big Day for Hunt! Swats 5 Hits!
During a player's career, there are days that stand out, and this day was definitely special! Archie Hunt went 5 for 5 against the Guantanamo Bay Interrogators at Blizzard Park and the Snow Bears picked up a 12-5 victory.

He exclaimed, "What a day! We win and I get 5 hits! Couldn't be better!" The delighted right fielder was really enjoying the happiness of the moment in the press room.

"He was patient up there today," the Anchorage skipper told the press after the game. "I like the way he waited for his pitch and wasn't overly agressive. Hunt has a tendency to go after some bad balls sometimes."

A. Hunt tripled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, walked in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

So far this season Hunt has gotten 118 hits in 388 at-bats for a .304 batting average with 10 home runs. His stats include 57 RBIs and 49 runs scored. He has played in 102 games.
