During his week-long batting binge he reeled off a .500 batting average, 8 hits and 3 home runs. Roberts also racked up 9 RBIs and scored 5 runs.
This season Roberts is batting .274 with 19 home runs. His totals include 66 RBIs and 59 runs scored. | | Monday, June 15th, 2009: Shimada Pounds Aaron Pitchers This Week Tadao Shimada went on a hitting rampage last week against Aaron pitchers and collected the Player of the Week Award.
The Guantanamo Bay third baseman connected for 13 hits in 28 at-bats and 1 home run. For the week he hit .464 with 7 RBIs and scored 7 runs.
So far in 2009 Shimada has hit .260 with 7 home runs and 31 RBIs. He has played in 70 games and scored 46 times. | | Tuesday, May 26th, 2009: Great Stroke! Torres Gets 5 Hits! What a day for Javier Torres of the Gary Goats! A 5-hit hitting spree! That doesn't happen everyday. He ripped Guantanamo Bay pitching apart at The Thunderdome. He wrote his name in the record books, finishing up his special day 5-6. But the Interrogators spoiled his party by winning the game 11-9.
The Gary first baseman confessed, "I would have much preferred getting a couple of hits and winning the game to this. It's hard to enjoy anything when you lose."
His skipper said, "It's a shame that we couldn't have won the game. A guy gets a once-in-a-lifetime game and can't really enjoy it."
But he was upbeat enough to talk about his basic theory of hitting. "I'm usually a first ball hitter," Torres told SION reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid that."
J. Torres singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off W. Drake in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
Torres on the season is hitting .332 with 11 home runs. His stats include 39 RBIs and 37 runs scored. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Toby Dodson | torn rotator cuff muscle | 6 weeks | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 42-38, .525 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 5.0 GB | | Record at home | 23-18, .561 PCT | | Record on the road | 19-20, .487 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 1-4, .200 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 11-11, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 11-9, .550 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 31-29, .517 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 15-13, .536 PCT | | Record in May | 18-11, .621 PCT | | Record in June | 9-14, .391 PCT |
