| Breaking News | | Saturday, September 6th, 2008: Crowley Socks It to Rednecks, Cracks 5 Hits After the Stamford 13-1 victory over Rochester and his 5-hit day second baseman Melvin Crowley told SION beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game is very good...three or four hits even better...5 or more are out of sight...and if it is in pro ball...it is really something special. It will get you in the record books."
The 30-year-old player gained that distinction today at Cubeta Stadium with a spectacular 5 for 5 game against the Rochester Rednecks.
The skipper of the Smugglers spoke glowingly of Crowley, telling SION writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Melvin did that to perfection today."
M. Crowley singled in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, walked in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and walked in the 9th.
In 2008 Crowley has produced 117 hits in 494 at-bats for a .237 average with 6 home runs and gotten on base at a .318 clip. | | Saturday, August 23rd, 2008: 5-Hit Barrage by Richards 5 hits in a game doesn't happen every day. Rochester's Brian Richards had a very special day against the Snow Bears when everything came together for him and he did just that -- collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats -- and led the Rochester Rednecks to a 8-6 win at Trailer Park.
"I'm just out there to try and help the team win," Richards said after the game, "I had some real good at-bats today. I made good, solid contact and luckily no one caught 'em."
B. Richards hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, doubled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
This year Richards has collected a .246 batting average to date with 122 hits in 496 at-bats, 69 RBIs, 17 home runs and scored 54 times. He has played in 129 games. | | Friday, August 15th, 2008: Lewis Goes 5-5 Against Rochester "It was almost like batting practice. I saw the ball very well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted." That's what Waco left fielder Jonathan Lewis said to SION reporters after his fantastic 5-5 day against the Rochester Rednecks at Central Texas Stadium. "I got some good counts and used the whole field."
The Stampede had a good day, too, and won the ballgame 9-5.
J. Lewis singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, singled in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off T. Aguilar in the 7th.
