| Breaking News | | Saturday, June 27th, 2009: Brown Dominates Waco In an impressive outing, Chris Brown whitewashed the Waco Stampede 15-0.
"I'm getting a lot more downward movement instead of side to side. That side-to-side stuff can get hit a long way," said Brown, who is throwing with more of an overhand motion.
"It's not rocket science. It was just a little adjustment, but that's all it took."
The Stamford hurler held Waco scoreless, allowed 3 hits, chalked up 5 strikeouts and yielded 1 walk.
This year Brown has a 5-5 record with a 3.87 ERA in 13 starts. | | Monday, June 8th, 2009: Brad Banks Out With DTD Injury Stamford's star reliever Brad Banks injured himself in a game against the Guantanamo Bay Interrogators, prompting the team to list him as day-to-day. The doctors are reporting the injury as a tender elbow and the best medicine is a short period of rest. "Hopefully I don't get replaced by some hotshot wannabe," said Banks with a smile as he talked to SION reporters.
This year Banks has pitched 54.2 innings over 31 relief appearances, picking up 4 saves and held opponents to a .204 average. Banks has a 2-3 record with a 2.14 ERA and 47 strikeouts. | | Friday, June 5th, 2009: Courtney 5-6 Against Smugglers If just anyone could go out and hit a baseball, big dollar contracts wouldn't exist. But they can't, so the good hitters get the big bucks. At Eight By Eleven Park Barrett Courtney showed how it's done as he went 5 for 6 against the Stamford Smugglers. However this great day with the bat didn't pay off in a victory. The Scranton Dunderheads fell 7-6.
The manager for the Smugglers told the SION sportswriters, "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it. That's the game of baseball. Don't make mistakes and you win a lot more ballgames. Luckily we came away with a win today. Courtney just didn't get enough help."
If Courtney keeps hitting like this, he could be headed for a big pay raise.
B. Courtney singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off J. Arreola in the 4th, walked in the 6th, singled in the 8th, hit a two-run single in the 9th, walked in the 11th, flied out in the 13th and singled in the 16th.
Courtney is batting at a .265 pace in 2009, picking up 53 hits in 200 at-bats with 14 home runs, 35 RBIs and 33 runs scored. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 47-33, .588 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 22-16, .579 PCT | | Record on the road | 25-17, .595 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 17-10, .630 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 9-8, .529 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 38-25, .603 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 9-1, .900 PCT | | Record in April | 15-13, .536 PCT | | Record in May | 15-14, .517 PCT | | Record in June | 17-6, .739 PCT |
