| Breaking News | | Monday, September 30th, 2019: Jenkins Expresses Desire to Leave Devil Rays? "Don't believe everything you hear." was the word from the team's ownership group after rumors of Pinky Jenkins wanting out of Tampa Bay surfaced late yesterday. No one knows exactly how this news broke and Jenkins laughed it off when told of the story. | | Tuesday, September 24th, 2019: Tampa Bay Humbled in Shutout by Nationals Alfredo Gibson was stingy with runs in his latest outing against the Devil Rays. He shut them out 3-0 on 6 hits with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks.
The Washington manager said, "Alfredo was very aggressive tonight. He threw everything he had with a lot of confidence."
The losing manager had praise, too. "He was throwing strikes with all his pitches and mixing it up well. Gibson has a sneaky fastball, and whatever that offspeed pitch was, it was keeping our timing off."
In 2019 Gibson has compiled a 13-9 record with a 2.67 ERA in 34 starts. | | Friday, September 20th, 2019: Smith Fires Shutout in Tampa Bay Victory On the hill Phil Smith stood out and was the master of the moment as he blanked Boston 11-0.
At bat the Red Sox floundered, fizzled, and failed to score.
"His fastball moves and he mixes in the slider," the Boston manager said. "He kept us off balance."
The Tampa Bay pitcher hurled a 3-hit shutout in an exceptional effort. He gave up 1 walk and numbered 2 strikeouts.
"I felt good," Smith said. "That's probably the best fastball I've had all season. I was able to locate it pretty well. They were super-aggressive, which helped me."
This year Smith has fanned 135 in 204 innings and collected a 11-14 record with a 4.72 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 67-95, .414 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 26.0 GB | | Record at home | 36-45, .444 PCT | | Record on the road | 31-50, .383 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-9, .357 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 23-28, .451 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 22-31, .415 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 45-64, .413 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 15-13, .536 PCT | | Record in May | 8-19, .296 PCT | | Record in June | 14-12, .538 PCT | | Record in July | 11-16, .407 PCT | | Record in August | 9-18, .333 PCT | | Record in September | 10-15, .400 PCT | | Record in October | 0-2, .000 PCT |
