 | Monday, October 13th, 2008: 5-5 Game for Morgan It was a good day for the Bristol Owls as they dumped the Jacksonville Marlins 8-4 at Huge Jax Field. Despite the loss it was a remarkable day for Marlins Jim Morgan, who went on quite a hitting spree with a 5 for 5 barrage. The Jacksonville catcher told reporters after his big 5-hit performance, "I have mixed emotions about this game. Getting 5 hits is really something special, but losing the ballgame spoils it to a certain extent. It's sort of like the feeling you get when your mother-in-law drive over a cliff in your new sports car." For his outstanding performance Morgan will get his name in the record book. Quizzed by the press corps about his personal hitting theories, he responded, "I don't have any buzz words. I'm 'not dialed in' or 'in a zone,' as they say. As far as the hitting goes, I try to keep it simple...try not to over-think it. I try not to look into it too much. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then in a split second decide to try to hit it. Today I picked up the spin very well." J. Morgan singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th. This season Morgan has delivered 165 hits in 526 at-bats for a .314 average with 20 home runs. He is getting on base at a .412 clip and his totals also include 92 RBIs and 88 runs scored. This year Morgan has played in 136 games. |
