 | Saturday, September 6th, 2008: Crowley Socks It to Rednecks, Cracks 5 Hits After the Stamford 13-1 victory over Rochester and his 5-hit day second baseman Melvin Crowley told SION beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game is very good...three or four hits even better...5 or more are out of sight...and if it is in pro ball...it is really something special. It will get you in the record books."
The 30-year-old player gained that distinction today at Cubeta Stadium with a spectacular 5 for 5 game against the Rochester Rednecks.
The skipper of the Smugglers spoke glowingly of Crowley, telling SION writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Melvin did that to perfection today."
M. Crowley singled in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, walked in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and walked in the 9th.
In 2008 Crowley has produced 117 hits in 494 at-bats for a .237 average with 6 home runs and gotten on base at a .318 clip. | |
