 | Sunday, August 24th, 2008: Cruz Smacks 3 Out-of-the-Park! Fireworks exploded with regularity in the Smokies-Swordfish game, but it wasn't a match that set them off -- it was the bat of Ramón Cruz. He belted 3 home runs in an awesome display of sheer power. In the 12-7 Asheville victory Cruz stunned the Swordfish pitching staff for 3 hits in 5 at-bats and knocked in 5 runs. After the game, Cruz said simply, "I saw everything they threw at me. Hitting was a piece of cake today...with lots of extra icing on it." R. Cruz flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off J. Jester in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off M. Brown in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off T. Flint in the 8th. Cruz has a .267 average and a .357 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 120 hits, 29 home runs and driven in 86 runs. |
