 | Wednesday, July 9th, 2008: Berry Cracks 5 Hits It's not something you read in the sports pages everyday -- a 5-for-6 day. It may only come around once in a career -- a lot of players never have one -- but Alex Berry got one today. He scattered hits all over Oceanview Park to pace Long Island to a 15-2 victory over Provo.
The Provo skipper told reporters in the press room, "Tip your hat to him. He hit some good pitches. According to the scouting report, Berry hit several that he is not supposed to hit."
A. Berry singled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off L. McPherson in the 5th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run triple in the 7th, singled in the 8th and walked in the 9th.
In 2008 Berry has produced 70 hits in 241 at-bats for a .290 average with 11 home runs and gotten on base at a .406 clip. | |
