 | Friday, September 20th, 2019: Sperling Twirls Rangers to Shutout Win Cy Sperling was downright nasty in pitching a 2-0 shutout against New York (A). His splitter was diving, his slider was breaking and the Yankees were swinging and looking bad. In the solid 2-hit shutout the Rangers hurler chalked up 9 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing. "As the game went on, he got stronger," his manager said. "I thought he really turned it up a notch in the eighth and ninth and probably threw his best breaking balls in those two innings. They put a lot of balls in play early in the count because he was throwing strikes." In 2019, Sperling has chalked up 22 wins and 6 losses in 34 starts with 216 strikeouts in 264.2 innings and a 2.55 ERA. |
