César Miranda burst onto the Ruth stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie shortstop for Asheville garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.
The 22-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .769 (10-13) with 1 home run and 6 RBIs last week.
In 69 games Miranda is hitting .277 this season for the Smokies with 61 hits, 3 home runs, 30 RBIs, 21 walks, .342 OBP and has scored 34 runs . |
 | Monday, June 29th, 2009: Player of the Week: Guantanamo Bay's Roberts
Guantanamo Bay fans had a lot to cheer about this week as right fielder Lee Roberts brought home the Aaron Player of the Week trophy.
During his week-long batting binge he reeled off a .500 batting average, 8 hits and 3 home runs. Roberts also racked up 9 RBIs and scored 5 runs.
This season Roberts is batting .274 with 19 home runs. His totals include 66 RBIs and 59 runs scored. |
 | Saturday, June 27th, 2009: Turner Raps Long Island for 5 Hits
Ken Turner told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard."
Well, that's just what Turner of the Jacksonville Marlins did against the Long Island Swordfish. He went to the plate 5 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Swordfish, who suffered a 8-4 defeat.
"Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us."
K. Turner hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off J. Jester in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off P. Montés in the 8th.
This season Turner has hit at a .263 clip with 21 RBIs, 7 home runs and 21 runs scored. He has played in 33 games. |
